Curriculum
Approved by the Louisiana Department of Education and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Sacred Heart of Jesus School meets or exceeds all accreditation compliance standards, including:
- Total instructional time and school days in session
- Mathematics and language arts instructional time
- Teacher certifications and qualifications
- Academic record keeping
- Faculty: pupil ratio and number of students per class
- Course of study
The overall faculty to pupil ratio is 15:1, with classroom sizes typically ranging between 20 and 26 students. Middle school math class size ranges between 10 and 15 students.
The core of the Sacred Heart curriculum includes the disciplines of religious studies, language arts (English, reading, literature, spelling, literature, vocabulary), mathematics (including middle school honors math and Algebra I for high school credit), science, social studies, and physical education. Enrichment activities available to most grade levels include art, music, computer literacy, guidance, library, and Spanish. Depending on interest and volunteerism, extra-curricular opportunities include athletics (football, basketball, volleyball, cross country, track, swimming, intramurals) and clubs (art, choir, drama, Beta Club, Quiz Bowl, Tigers in Action, Recycling).
