Third graders have been reading Charlotte's Web as a class. Mimicking Charlotte and Templeton, students drew their own spider web then a classmate used magazine clippings to make a kind word in their friend's web. #sacredheartproud ... See MoreSee Less

This painting is the second piece completed for the renovated prayer room at Sacred Heart of Jesus School Baton Rouge. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary under her title as Mater Misericordiae, Our Lady of Mercy. Our Lady of Mercy is the patroness of the Mercedarian sisters, who teach and minister to the students at Sacred Heart. This image is meant to speak to the young children who encounter it. The schoolyard scene is familiar for them and they see students like themselves being gathered under Mary’s outstretched mantle. This is to remind the students of the maternal protection of Our Lady for each of them personally. She holds the scapular in one hand and a broken chain in the other. The broken chain references the mission of the Mercedarian order, which was dedicated to freeing Christians from unjust imprisonment. Beneath Mary we see a carpet embroidered with roses and small blue flowers to honor her. Looking closely we can see a little clover and buttercup laid at her feet. I imagined the children picking the wildflowers, as they often do for their earthly mothers, and bringing them to Our Lady. On the bottom right corner we see three united logos. The logo of Sacred Heart is central, bordered on the left by the Sisters of St. Joseph’s logo, representing their founding ,and the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament on the left to represent their current mission to the school. 5/7’, oil on canvas...#oiloncanvas #oilpainting #LouisianaArtist #OurLadyofMercy #catholiccreatives #catholic #catholicschool #catholicartist ... Family Spotlight

The Bodin family – Katie and Greg, with their twins Eliza and Joseph.
When asked why they chose Sacred Heart, Katie said “we were looking for a school where our children would thrive and receive a more personal touch to their education.  The moment we stepped foot on this historic campus, we knew Sacred Heart was different from anywhere else – the atmosphere and the way the children interact were just different. It was a palpable feeling.”
